Interesting observation. Well, it is still trying to maintain the illusion of democracy. Statistical analysis won't help with some elements (media control, suppression of candidates), but it would still help with voter suppression and outright rigging, no?

It becomes harder to pinpoint it, since focusing on variation across time gets contaminated if past elections are already fraudulent. And I tend to be a bit skeptical over cross-sectional analysis exclusively.

I dunno yet, but I'm sure there are other ppl lining up to check this, although I would be careful with interpretations of any such analysis bc of reasons I gave above

They were always insightful. But yes, even if there isn't provable fraud, when the opposition gets 10% of the eyeballs but close to 50% of the votes year after year. It becomes hard to analyze just data.
