MakeMKV is your one-click solution to convert DVD, Blu-ray and AVCHD discs that you own into MKV. The only thing MakeMKV does - it remuxes/changes the video clips from the disk into a set of MKV files, preserving most information but not changing it in any way(no video and audio reconversion). The MKV format can store multiple video/audio tracks with all meta-information and preserve chapters. There are many players that can play MKV files nearly on all platforms. MakeMKV contains both freeware and shareware functionality. You may use MakeMKV to convert or stream DVD and AVCHD discs for free, as much as you want. Converting or streaming Blu-ray discs is shareware functionality. You can use shareware functionality for free during 30-days trial period. If you like MakeMKV and you want to use it after your 30-days trial version expires, you need to purchase a registration key.
Additionally MakeMKV can instantly stream decrypted video without intermediate conversion to wide range of players, so you may watch Blu-ray and DVD discs with your favorite player on your favorite OS or on your favorite device.

I ended up buying the program as it "just works" I used the free version updating the rego code as per instructions for years, finally thought maybe I should support the author and I bought a permanent license. Absolutely no problems with it and I have transferred all my Blu Ray and DVD's to MKV and loaded them onto my NAS. I reckon anyone who has a problem with getting it work hasn't read or more to the point comprehended the instructions.

MakeMKV is FREE* whilst in beta. And it's been in "beta" for years.
*Temporary keys are continuously provided by the developer on the forum when the current one expires.
As such, there is no need to purchase anything so technically MakeMKV is free.
If the program ever makes it out of "beta" (which is doubtful) the DVD capabilities will remain free of charge.

So, how is this a FREEWARE if it costs $50? There's not way to install only DVD version (without Bluray functionality) because there isn't DVD-only version, as some people state here. Any comments on this convoluted word-game crap? ;-)))

I've been using this for quite a while and liked it, Until I bought a 4k Blu-Ray drive!!! Went through all the trouble of downgrading it to see if MakeMKV would rip with it, But it Didn't! Though I had downgraded the Drive Wrong, but I Hadn't! I Tried to rip The 4K Disk with The trial Version of DVDFAB and it worked!! I don't understand why DvdFab works with my Drive, but Not MakeMKV?!
