The United Nations are planning to change its definition of “child pornography” to include work that do not involve actual children. At first glance, that sounds like a good idea, but let me show you why it is not.
I have not come to comment on these articles in this blog yet, but the articles Pornography and Sex Crimes in Czech Republic and Pornography, Rape and Sex Crimes in Japan show that the presence of pornography in a particular territory reduces the rates of sexual crimes in that territory. In particular, the presence of child pornography in these territories seems to have reduced the rates of child sexual abuse. Of course there is child pornography that is done by taking advantage of children or even hurting them, but if such pornography does not involve actual children, the benefit is kept and no child is injured in the process. Maybe that explains why the rates of child sexual abuse in Japan are lower than the same rates in the United States and the United Kingdom, which are two nations among the five with the most cases of child sexual abuse in the world! How can it be? Simple: Japan, Czech Republic and a few other places allow pedophiles, for example, to have alternatives for sexual gratification. If there is no alternative, what are they going to do? Sex! But sex with adults or children? Are you seeing my point? Knowing this, there are scientists who are studying the possibility of “prescribing” virtual reality child pornography for pedophiles under treatment or for those who recognize the desire and do not want to break the laws. Thus, to prohibit pornography without real models prevents the continuation of a therapeutic research.
Moreover, since such pornography does not use real models and since it may be beneficial in the long run, prohibiting it is an unnecessary intervention to freedom of expression and artistic freedom. I thought the United Nations were the supreme guardians of human rights, among which is freedom of expression. The only reason for making such a limitation on freedom of speech is the presumption, based only on “icky factor”, that this material increases the rate of child sexual abuse, which no study has been able to confirm. Show me one study that proves that lolicon or shotacon increases the rate of child sexual abuse, only one, and I may even reconsider. But I want a peer-reviewed scientific paper done with non-clinical/non-forensic samples.
What can you do.
The new definition of the United Nations is included between items 61 and 64 of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child . This document is being created and the authors are accepting suggestions (in English and Spanish) from any interested party . You do not need a Ph. D. to submit your comments. The comment should specifically cite paragraphs 61 to 64, pages 13 and 14, and should be sent in Microsoft Word format (five pages or less) to the email that will receive the comments ( crc@ohchr.org ). Go there and make me proud.

If you are wondering what to fill your document with, here’s some useful links you can quote from and two images you can put in the document if you are feeling daring.
A meme. UN’s job is to work for the community of the nations in order to avoid the third world war. When will it go back to it’s job (and when will it ever do it right)?
Action plan / message to the U. N. (Work in Progress). Fellow Hikari made her letter public. Some good points from an Asian academic.
An image. “We have to put those Japanese perverts in a leash!” Two days later…
Anonymous Japan. They propose the following reasoning: “if we were to ban depictions of torture, murder and kidnapping, how many creative works would be outlawed?” The same reasoning applies to this issue, and they point that watching Saw movies, for example, doesn’t make people more interested in kidnapping, murdering or torturing anyone (even though people who enjoy snuff are probably masturbating to gore movies).
Canadian humanitarian worker Peter Dalglish arrested in child sex investigation in Nepal, police say. A person who used to be affiliated to the UN. He rescued kids from home and, with a promise of education and travel, had sex with them.
Child sexual abuse by UN peacekeepers. This a Wikipedia article. If anyone censors something, revert the changes.
Child sexual abuse: top five countries with the highest rates. Since you guys love this word, what are the five most pedophilic nations in the world? It seems like pedophilia is a Western value too.
Children’s rights activist Peter Newell jailed for abuse. This is the guy who co-authored Unicef’s “Handbook for the Convention on the Rights of the Child”. There’s something to be learned from this: don’t let the UN touch your children.
Commentary on the issue above. That same guy was one the first people to suggest that Japan should stop producing lolicon/shotacon manga. It’s seems like you are worth suspicion when you are too invested in this cause.
Could sex robots and virtual reality treat pedophilia? If you ban porn with fictional children, you forcefully end research on this type of therapy. The idea is to help pedophiles to cope with unchanging feelings, by giving them a substitute for real kids, so they could feel satiated and less inclined to offend.
Experts to United Nations: hentai ban would be a mistake. It seems like the group behind the push to criminalize shotacon and lolicon is one of the groups that supported FOSTA/SESTA. This page also has a message template, in case of you not knowing what to write in your message.
For victims of UN sex abuse or exploitation, help can be elusive. Read that headline again. The UN should be doing something about their own organization, since they are against adult/child sex, rather than rambling at Japan.
Pornography and sex crimes in Czech Republic. Readily accessible porn decreased sex crime rates. See commentary at the introduction of this text.
Pornography, rape and sex crimes in Japan. Same as above, but with bigger eyes. See commentary at the introduction.
Report: cartoon paedophilia harmless. What is the UN fighting against? They are trying to distract you from things that really matter, which could put the UN itself safe from suspicion.
Report: UN officials let child sex abuse claims linger. When French soldiers were caught having sex with starving kids, the UN fired the guy who leaked the information to the French authorities. I guess their plan is something along the lines of “let’s fight drawings, so that people think we are doing something for children.”
Sex abuse charity boss arrested on child pornography charges. Also former UN youth ambassador. Of course, if drawings were legal and people had an outlet for these desires, the demand for illegal porn would be lower: if you were thirsty, but water was free and juice was forbidden, wouldn’t you settle with water?
The UN sex abuse scandal review – careful, dignified and gruelling. Japan takes better care of their children than the UN does. The UN should learn from Japan, not the other way around.

Your link to the relevant section of the protocol in your last paragraph doesn’t seem to be working. Could you fix the link, please?

Alright. It happned because I write my posts in Portuguese, then use Google Translate to translate them to English, so that I just have to fix the grammar and semantics to post, rather than fully translating the whole thing manually. That makes my links be proxied through Google Translate too.

There’s the link. I’ll fix in the post.

Only Microsoft Word format? Why is UN promoting a proprietary file format when there are open standards such as PDF?

For the same reason they think that banning cartoons is a good thing: they don’t keep up with the times. If you are scared of giving them a DOC/DOCX file, just remember that you can alter the metadata that those documents send. For example, write the file on Libreoffice, rather than Microsoft Word, and save as DOC or DOCX. It will be saved without things like real name and address that you might have given to Windows during installation of the system or Word. I personally use Libreoffice because it gives me more control over the metadata that I’m sending. If you want to be sure, open the options in Libreoffice and look for the personal data fields, making sure to leave them blank.

My concern was more about the ethics of an impartial organization enforcing proprietary software when there are non-proprietary alternatives. But thanks for reminding me that I should be concerned with my privacy too.

Not to mention Microsoft is super pedophobic. We all know about Microsoft doesn’t give two shits about user privacy, and Outlook reportedly blocks emails if they think you’re a pedophile trying to seek therapy (they block b4uact emails)

I know about that part: they intercept e-mails from therapy-seeking pedophiles. Way to go about reducing the incidence of adult/child sex.

“rates of child sexual abuse in Japan are lower than the same rates in the United States and the United Kingdom” … or simply, intergenerational sex acts are not systematically reported in Japan, or if reported they do not necessarily lead to a trial if the affair seems consensual. More sentencing does not mean more crime.

That’s pretty aporetic, but, since we are dealing with facts, we can really only talk about what we see, not what we conjecture about.

I’ve noticed that shotacon has been a little less abundant in stores this year than ever before. I think they are trying to clean up for the Olympics. And now this shit? Sigh…2020 is gonna be a hell crazy year here…

The protocol is optional, but do you think Japan will adopt it?

Comentário por Yure — 19 de fevereiro de 2019 @ 20:54
I certainly hope not. On the optimistic side, even though I said it’s less common here than before, it’s still very much a normal sight here. Also, Japan was very reluctant to do away with real CP, and it took a great deal of pressure to cause them to finally cave. On the pessimistic side, they eventually did, and this proposal comes at a very bad time because Japan has a history of submitting to foreign pressure around Olympics time.
Does this proposed ban apply to literary fictional works as well?

I heard it does, but I confess that I didn’t see it in the proposal. Then again, I skimmed through it because I was angry as flomp. So I just fished for the paragraphs to quote.

Yeah, looks like it does. Maybe it’d be helpful to also call upon Nifty/Asstr/Ao3 writers and the like.
And looks like it refers to dolls and toys, too. I know James Cantor is with us on this one, that dolls should be legal. Maybe he can be encouraged to make a statement.
Do you think it would be useful for me to post my draft of a comment to the U.N. here?

Yes. I do think so. If you can get in contact with Cantor and Seto via Twitter, that would also be great. Also, one person sent this as message, you may want to take a look and give it a signal boost.

Laws reflecting the UN proposal already are in existence in Australia and (most of) the US. This is aimed squarely at Japan, and one can only hope that they will not submit to this type of pressure.

Several manga artists, including hotshots, are sending their comments to the UN. I have sent mine too, even though I’m not an artist. MAPs managed to make some desired changes in DSM in 2011 and managed to keep undesired changes from happening in 2018, if I’m not mistaken. And the ICD, written by the WHO, tended to the changes. Maybe we have a chance of changing the proposal with these comments. We can’t have a mindset of “this isn’t going to work”, because, what if it had chances of working? I wouldn’t forgive myself for not trying. And they are trying.

A lot of people in Japan don’t write well in English, but thankfully some of them are asking for help with the language and receiving such help. I would like to help too, but I have already sent two messages to them, from different e-mails. If I send more messages through those, they will think I’m making replies up.
