Explosives were absolutely not used. And none of the buildings fell at free fall speeds, The Two Towers clearly did not as you can see debris falling to the side of the building much, much faster than the initial collapse. The outer perimeter of building 7 fell at free fall speed for like three seconds, but this was at least 15 seconds into the collapse of the building which started on the interior and went up to the roof then over to the rest of the interior, until the perimeter was unsupported and fell.

Why were explosives not used? Because demolition charges are incredibly loud. You cannot cut steel with quiet explosives, because the two things are intrinsically linked, the more cutting power, the louder the sound. And the steel used in the WTC would be thicker and stronger than any other building demolished. In fact, no buiding as tall as WTC has ever been demolished. And demolition charges are loaded on pre-weakened buildings where other supports have already been removed, the building columns are partially cut with welder's torch and the explosives are loaded into the cut. Given all that, the explosive required would have been heard in Brooklyn, in New Jersey, in Staten Island. They would be heard on ever video camera that was recording sound.

You do know there are MANY videos of people talking about booms and explosions from that day. Sure they may try to scrub them from existence. But they are out there. Thermate (not thermite), the 'artists' living in the building, Bush cousin ran security and the night crews installed the charges. Go watch how Thermate works, revisit the molten pools of metal that FLOWED for weeks and look at the IR satellite imagery.
