Yet another Western visitor sees what she wants to see in #Syria. Drinks the Koolaid. Shades of Tom Friedman.https://thehill.com/opinion/international/433177-the-future-and-present-of-northeast-syria-is-female …

Hi Steven. If you'd like to engage with my oped, that's great. Maybe next time you could: - tag me so I see your comments (you call me a visitor; I'm a tenured prof like you) - explain why promoting women, abolishing child marriage is drinking the koolaid #IWD2019@womenalsoknow

      - explain why drawing attention to the dire humanitarian situation, including lack of medical facilities in #DeirEzzour is drinking the koolaid. They have one incubator for a population of 1.6 million people, plus about 450,000 IDPs who fled to DeirEzzour from regime territory.

This is the largest of the three hospitals in Deir es Zour. They only have one surgery room and one incubator for a population of over 2 million. This hospital needs to be repaired before it can be used at all. What are donors waiting for? #Syria ⁦@MSF_USA⁩ pic.twitter.com/0DWf92PWsv

Finally by highlighting that both the Civil Code in #Turkey and the Self-Administration of NE #Syria have laws against #childmarriage & polygamy, I was trying to move beyond the polarized ideological debate. So I'm really curious whose koolaid you think I drank? #EndChildMarriage

The so-called empowerment of women in Arab communities by the PYD, which governs in a coercive, autocratic fashion is unsustainable.

I remember a Mideast "expert" saying in 2016 that the YPG/PYD would soon (matter of months) "collapse" with its expansion & projects in Syria. Nothing of that happened, despite powerful enemies & propaganda by Turkey. The empowerment of women in Sunni Arab areas is well received.

PYD is authoritarian, and overextending itself, preventing the old pro-revolutionary elite from coming back,de-revolutionizing the Arab areas, preventing Independence Flag being waved,If Kurdish areas want PYD authoritarianism, then so be it,but da vast Arab areas don’t want PYD rule

no,there was an FSA rule over Deir Ez Zor,by the locals since beginning of 2012 up until ISIS expelled them in 2014,Nusra wasn't controlling all of Deir Ez Zor,they were present in their bases and had limited influence,FSA at least was from the locals,no foreigners like PYD

Kurds are not interested to govern Deirezzor or Raqqa, there are local administrations and Arabs already rule where they live, your claims are baseless. You are claiming as Turks do for Manbij. Local people form councils & governing their cities according to demographics.
