1/ Because the Israeli/Palestinian issue forms part of (current) Labour's foundational myth, a totem, which they reflexively and vehemently resist any abrasion of, and the ease with which that reflex is triggered and commingled with antisemitism (intentionally or accidentally)..

2/ it remains a point of weakness that is hard to close. There may be a way to close it, but that would require Corbyn taking part in some theatre, and publicly putting himself in a showdown, a big interview if you will. Think Walden/Thatcher Belgrano..
