Thread: I don't understand something, if you look up "ISIS" and "Idlib" you'll find a story about alleged ISIS members being executed, with photos. The commentary is basically 'this happened'. But how come when HTS executes people there isn't discussion of "extrajudicial killing"

For some reason if the SDF did this there would be a huge amount of media attention and HRW and Amnesty and all these groups rushing to say it's a human rights violation to put men in the street and shoot them. But somehow no such discussion about HTS...calls to "investigate"pic.twitter.com/FKHIcblfvt

The excuse will be "well HTS is Al-Qaeda." Ok...but that doesn't absolve it of having to have the same human rights as any group. If Shi'ite militias in Iraq get accused of "extrajudicial" killing and torture, then surely HTS can be as well, why does it get a pass.

And let's be hones here, HTS operates in an area where there are observation points and an "agreement" between Turkey and Russia....it's on the moon, it's in an area under an agreement, one of whose powers is a NATO country. So it's not correct to just excuse it.

Of course I think ISIS member should be brought to justice. If they harmed people in Idlib they must face justice. But just putting up a video and saying "we caught these guys and execute them" is what is usually called "extrajudicial" killing. So why the low standards?

Don't forget that they killed Raed Faris out and loud in the open and got away with it. Imagine if Faris was killed in some airstrike by mistake, what would have happened ... I been saying for too long, HTS is protected.

Before they take this article down...remember this...and now it's basically a NATO ally escorting these folk. But don't worry, not Amnesty or HRW will be hanging out in Idlib. So no reports.http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/opinion/sedat-ergin/when-tahrir-al-sham-forces-accompany-a-turkish-military-convoy-in-idlib-127381 …

This isn't entirely true, at least in some analysts. From what I see on Twitter, @p_vanostaeyen at least does report it (I assume other Syria analysts also do so).pic.twitter.com/fBUWQMKz7J

My issue wasn’t with lack of reporting it was with the lack of interests by human rights organizations in this and also in the style of reporting. The sense or lack thereof within how it was framed

I see. Maybe this is part of the "ISIS effect": #ISIS is by now considered such a symbol of ultimate evil that many of its atrocities are widely reported (and believed), while others jihadi groups get far less attention.

My point was that if the PMU or SDF did this it would be unacceptable. HTS gets a pass for some reason

Interesting point; yes, this does seem to happen. Maybe this indicates that the media and human rights groups (if not states) take HTS at their word as being "moderate" jihadis after they distanced themselves from AQ.

I'm not griping. I care about HTS getting blanket coddling. And yes, the same hypocrisy extends to the US, for some reason if SDF will use white phosphorous then the "human rights" groups will shout "war crime"...the Coalition uses it..oh that's fine.

Probably because ISIS are killers, they hang men upside down, slice their throat, collect the blood & sell bottles of It. They also cut the heart out & share pieces with other ISIS they eat raw. They think it gives strength. These ISIS are friends of Omar a new Congress member.

I'm not only talking about Arab groups even minorities groups speak out against Kurds like Christians & Catholics. All the sudden when Kurds help break a people free they still seem like they would rather bow down to dictators instead of have Kurds rise and even them opportunity.

Mhm this happens mainly to Kurds only even the PMU get passes when they took over Kurdish cities from the Peshmerga they committed war crimes but nothing was said. I've had discussion about things that Kurds do the M.E. goes crazy but when anyone else does it nothing is said.
