Protesters in Sudan showing solidarity with protesters in Algeria. Echoes from 2011, when the same slogans would show up in 5 or 6 countries.

Here the Imam in the Wilaya (province) of Taaref, does exactly that and gets challenged for it brilliantly by a young man: "You misuse religion to misguide the people" & تَاۡمُرُوۡنَ بِالۡمَعۡرُوۡفِ وَتَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ الۡمُنۡكَرِ

2 days ago, Imams across were given letters from Ministry of Religious Affairs ordering them to dissuade worshippers from joining protests, providing exact verses from the Quran to use and emphasise stability, whilst citing death and destruction in Syria/Iraq as warnings

Anna Campbell was a British citizen killed last year in Syria while fighting with the YPJ who was hailed for her heroism & “inspiration”. Ex soldier Joe Robinson, imprisoned in Turkey in 2015 for fighting alongside Kurdish armed groups, was able to return to Britain last year.

My latest: “What has become apparent is the conditionality of citizenship for those of foreign extraction based on the nature of their crimes or contingent upon good behaviour. If your name is not Anna or Joe then different rules apply to you.”

A "state" that, in order to survive, must (and has the ressources to) destroy whole cities and drive half of the population from their homes is worse than no state.

A pattern going on here...MbS turns up in a place, announces billions of dollars of investment, then goes on to the next place and does the same. Most of this investment never seems to actually get finalised...loads of big numbers floating about in many countries. Not much sticks

He’s thanking Russia for all their support to Syria and looks forward to working with them more to get the country out of the current crisis. Are these Russian efforts to break apart the US backed SEaf alliance?

Sandeed Army leader Hmeidi Daham al Jarba was at Hmeimim airport confirming his Forces were loyal to Assad This is interesting bc they are part of the SDF structure with more independence and looser commitments to the entire structure.

Mais allez-vous faire voir . Ces paroles ne sont pas juste « sorties de leur contexte ». Elles sont aussi, dans leur contexte, terriblement racistes et leur portée est répugnante.

Hard to see this and not think our politicians are enacting - and I say this having considered my words carefully - a racist and two-tier justice system. They are depriving the children of immigrants their citizenship on the basis that they *could* claim alternative citizenship.

It’s been 61 days since Trump announced Syria Withdrawal. No troops have left. 2 US Generals contradicted themselves today: one said US staying “as long as it’s needed”, second confirmed withdrawal. Turkey is talking to Russia, Assad appealing to Kurds, Iran flexing in South.
