J-pop girl group NGT48 member Maho Yamaguchi recently shared that she was assaulted by two men while arriving at her home in December 2018.
She spoke of it for the first time publicly while on a Showroom livestream but was cut off before going into detail. She since went on Twitter to explain the assault.
Yamaguchi said that two men attacked her outside her apartment when she was returning home after a performance. The two men, a 25-year-old unemployed man and a male college student, grabbed her when she was about to enter her home and then grabbed onto her face so hard that she almost fell to the floor.
She tried to shove them both away and scream for help while one of the men tried to pin her down and cover her mouth. She was able to escape from them when the attackers where startled by the sound of the elevator. The men were eventually found by police and charged with assault, and as of now they have been released.
One of the men told her they'd been informed of her address and apartment number, along with what time she'd be returning home, through one of the NGT48 members. This has led fans to speculate about which member may have leaked information, but there is no confirmation as of yet.
Yamaguchi herself has said that she doesn't want anyone to hate the group and to understand that they all work hard. You can read a fan translation of her tweets below.
Japanese media outlets have reached out to NGT48's management for an official statement but there has been no comment yet.
