LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- City leaders have announced Google Fiber's new plan to better secure fiber lines on streets in the Highlands.
Metro Councilman Brandon Coan said Google Fiber will clean the sealant out of the trenches and replace it with hot asphalt to match the road's current surface.
"It sounds like they may have beaten us to the punch," said Patrick Carrico with the Belknap Neighborhood Association.
Carrico is set to meet with the the city and Google Fiber representatives this week to address concerns in the neighborhood, especially in places where the sealant didn't stick.
"(Google Fiber) probably realized that this was what they needed to do to make sure they weren't negatively impacting residents," Carrico said.
A Google Fiber spokesperson sent a statement about the plan:
"We want to provide the best Internet experience possible -- and that starts with our construction process. Working with the City of Louisville and the City Council, we’ve begun a comprehensive program to repair and upgrade some previous areas of fiber construction. When possible, we’ll coordinate our work with the City’s existing plans for street maintenance. By doing this work at the same time, we’ll be able to reduce disruption for citizens.

Work is expected to start this fall, and it'll go along with the city's paving schedules over the next two years.
This time around, Coan said signs will be posted in neighborhoods with at least 48 hours notice.
