Howdy! Earlier in the week this thread popped up, noting that popular Youtuber AvE has deleted many of his old videos. I happened to have a collection of his videos that I believe to be complete and promised to share it.
Well, here it is! The torrent contains all videos posted prior to this post's creation, which is Feb 1 2019.

I'm not sure I like the his arguments, about how he likes the transitional next-month magazine feel. On one side, these videos were his property so he can do what he wants with it. On the other side, this content was made possible because of the donations of thousands of Patreons, including me. I really like what he does, but I do not want to put my money on ephemeral content, I want the most people to be able to enjoy it. AvE, these videos literally cost you nothing to keep up, it's disrespectful to the people who gave you money to allow you to make them. If you are reading this, you are probably thinking "hey well go fuck your hat buddy", you don't like to feel like you owe anything to anyone regarding your videos, you have been very clear that it's why don't take freebies from vendors and all, and I respect that. But you did take money from thousands of people, like it or not, you do owe them something. Your Patreon subscription feels like Spotify now, you never know what will disappear ! I'de rather go fuck my hat, download this torrent and remove my Patron subscription. Some of my money went into these videos, I don't feel bad.
He addressed it the last time he deleted a bunch as well, and the time before that too... But he deleted those videos.
He relies on newcomers to the channel. He doesn't actually want long term fans, he only cares about view count.
This, uh, doesn't sound accurate. Can you back this up please?
I struggle to find a reason why he should care about view count and not long term fans. He doesn't do sponsorships, he gets pennies from youtube monitization, virtually his entire income comes from Patreon, which is money from long term fans.
Personally I think the reason he has deleted old videos comes down to:
he may have revealed something that might help someone find out his identity or where he lives
he said something that his wife finds embarassing
he said something that he regrets
More likely by deleting older videos he gets a chance to go do them again down the track. Must be hard to get new ideas 4 or 5 years down the line in a YouTube career.

To me it sounds like he is retracting some of the stuff he said in previous videos. Whether he has deleted some for other reasons, who knows, only Uncle Bumblefuck himself.
What i find interesting is that he deleted about 150 videos. Let's be honest, most of his videos aren't that short. So has he sat down and watched his previous videos to make judgement on whether to remove it or not? Or has he had a good system from the start and made a good set of notes on each video; so all he has done is skim over the notes? hmmm.....
Interesting you say that. I feel the same way but not sure why. I guess because they were a lot of tool teardowns vs fabricating.
To avoid controversy. If he criticises someone, and they respond, he takes down the video because it keeps people from seeing his old criticism and stirring shit.
I mean I really like AvE too, its a shame to see him go down this path
Eh. I like the videos just fine now, and I liked the videos just fine then.
I don't care if people choose to pay him for that.
I myself choose not to, though I did buy a ruler from him that is covered in dick jokes so there's that I suppose.
e: turns out I was very wrong! I don't remember that video that talks about his decisions to take down older videos.
My assumption is it's not him doing it purposefully. For awhile now his videos have taken a week or longer to be 'processed' before Youtube approves them to be listed.
I'm wondering if the ones that get removed are flagged for some reason or another as the content checker makes its way down the line.

I am working on the same, currently downloading at 6.6 megabytes per second, should have full torrent downloaded in a few hours, will seed for a few weeks at least on my symmetrical Gb connection
I was wondering if anyone else had done this! I've been backing them up with an xml for metadata so Plex can display them with some level of clarity.
I'm curious if I'm missing any so I'll check yours against mine!

I have title, description, and air date.
Plus I've been doing 50 episode seasons so it's somewhat manageable haha
Do you know which episodes are missing? That's part of the battle, is finding the missing titles.
Yes, I have an excel that shows the episodes from my collection that he is missing (38 episodes). Most are older, but there are a few here and there from the more recent years.
I was also missing 14 episodes so with the two collections combined there are 659 episodes.
I have some older Patreon videos, but I believe they were all reuploaded to his YouTub account over time.
e: When I'm at my computer again I'll upload the spreadsheet and share it.
How do you go about having Plex load the metadata? Have a few channels I'm trying to do similar for, but doesn't seem to be reading the files for me.
Sounds like he created a custom Scanner with information specific to this series and is using it against that channel in Plex.
when did you start making this collection? this isn't the first time he's taken down videos

I'm pretty sure it's a complete collection, I've been scraping for awhile. I've got a few I don't see in other lists people have posted so far e.g. "20130419 - Adafruit peristaltic pump - (321s) [1440x1080].mp4". Let me know if you want anything specific, or if there's enough interested I'll dedupe and create a torrent.

I don't really have space for this collection. But i do miss some of his older videos. I've wanted to show a video or two to a couple of friends recently but couldn't find them; i assume they were one of the ones to be deleted.
You know that you can pick and choose which files you want when you download a torrent? You don't have to download the entire folder.
That wouldn't be skookum though.

I'm on Linux, with VLC, I thought maybe I had a codex issue or something. Are you on Windows, Mac or Linux ?
It looks like everything after around 20170714 doesn't have sound. I don't have the ones up to 20170723 yet, but 0723 doesn't have sound, nor all the ones I tested after.
I might cross reference this download with http://www.perpetualarchive.ca/AvE/ and see what gaps each download is missing and replace the ones without audio
And Maybe Torrent author has the files downloaded with audio and an error occurred with the torrent creation.
Hmm that's not good. Looks like at some point youtube-dl stopped merging the source files. There's a mix of mkv and mp4 in the torrent, the mkvs are the combined version.
Luckily I still have all of the source files. When I have some free time I'll look into getting all of these merged. I'm planning on issuing a new torrent anyway - another redditor is providing related plex metadata files too.
I downloaded them all and the last one with sound was 20170719. Thanks for uploading them though, I was able to find a video from 2015 I was looking for.

It's still seeding. Give it another day or so, and by the time you've caught up it should be fully available. It's at 53% available at time of writing, and the one seed machine remains doggedly online so we should be fine. Takes a while to get 150GB out there.
Yep, my upload speed is not so great (1MB/s!). But it will seed as long as needed!

Looking at Snoopsnoo, it looks like at least half of all posts are in skookum. Also interesting that he hasn't allowed anyone else to be a mod there; assuming that some have asked.
