The revolution was an anomalous occurrence. Civil society in Syria never knew how to exist unrepressed -- never felt the experience of existing above ground. We're back to the status quo. Revolution continues under the auspices of the Assad regime.

But the parties which purport to represent the revolution popularly, Hayat Tahrir ash-Sham, the PYD-Democratic Union Party, they operate publicly within this system. Their efforts are exposed to the co-opting effect of the regime. Revolution must necessarily exist underground.

The problem is that so called "rojava revolutionaries" are sometimes Assad allies, sometimes russian allies, some times US allies, they are traitors and their forces are just a hired mercenaries.
