Euan still hasn't said which aspects of Israel are "problematic" in relation to equality and human rights. If 'apartheid' is only "probably too strong", why be so adamant in accusing those who think it an accurate description as antisemitic?

I'm not accusing anyone of being more loyal to Israel than their own country. I'm loyal to neither but rather to particular ethical values. I agree it is antisemitic to do so. However, the second point in the IHRA list that you excerpt does stifle reasonable critiques of Israel.

Criticism of Israel and their treatment of the Palestinians is fine, using the term 'apartheid' may fall under accusing Israel of having a racist agenda. Which I don't think is the correct use of language anyway.

I actually agree with Euan that "apartheid is probably too strong" a description ... at the moment. I don't accept that those who do use that description are being antisemitic. And there are people in government in Israel whose policies would amount to apartheid if implemented.

It's not too strong, it's factually incorrect. There is a definition of apartheid but Israeli society, institutions and laws don't fit. It can't be criticism when it's a malicious lie to demonise Israel as unacceptably racist. It's the familiar language of exclusion for Jews

Is there such a thing as 'acceptably racist'? The UK state does some things that are racist and I criticise them regularly. Why should Israel or any other state be exempted from such criticism?

It's claimed claim that Israel is singled out due to antisemitism. But it isn't singled out. The UK imposes sanctions on a number of states - eg https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/financial-sanctions-regime-specific-consolidated-lists-and-releases …. Israel should face sanctions too for its illegal occupation of Palestinian territory outside the 1967 borders.

That's changing the subject a bit as its a complex issue (67 not being actual borders etc). The point is normal criticism is fine - labelling Israel as apartheid is def not normal criticism

The detail of the border is a different subject, but my point related to many of the, in my view unjustified, accusations of antisemitism against Labour members and pro-Palestinian campaigners. That is not to say that all such accusations are unjustified.
