What the fuck is wrong with the furry fandom...

Fingers crossed that Weasyl is not tainted.

In a nutshell, no. Weasyl is safe. But it's fucking dead because FurAffinity has a monopoly on the anthro art business.
-
Youtube and Twitter are really going to be the last bastions of the Furry Fandom at this rate. Even with Weasyl being safe, the biggest con is no audience. This shit is depressing.
-
Mastodon almost was a worthy successor, but its biggest weakness is how broken up it is. You end up engaging with tiny audiences so it's not very efficient for the average furry artist.
-
I like the basic idea behind Mastodon but something about "anyone can make their own so here are a bunch dedicated to cub/loli" seems like it missed the mark. I applaud the basic idea, of course.

Weasyl doesn't allow cubs anymore(?), I remember it being blacklisted like a month or two after launch due to user complaints. As for history of abuse I'd look into Wikifur for that.
-
That is a fair bit better than most, just for banning it so quickly.

No, and wild speculation isn't helping anything... It's okay to not constantly be looking for problems and appreciate the good things.
-
This. Weasyl would have to have done a lot of bad shit to be worse than Jason.
-
Weasyl was co-founded by "pokchu", I am told, but I do not know if that is significant because all my research is focused elsewhere at the moment.
-
As far as I'm aware weasyl didn't have one specific founder and that individual hasn't been involved with the site since its most early days. And even then they're not anywhere near as bad as Jason lol
-
Also I'm not aware of any abuse allegations against that person but it doesn't mean they don't exist. I do know that their involvement was limited though
-
Pokchu/Benchilla/BrendaBanks was removed from staff early in the site's history. He's also the only person who'd claim Weasyl was "tainted". And I'd rather have him or Dragoneer on staff than have a racist transphobe who groomed a 15 year old, thanks.

New sites or any would be tainted sooner or later, but it depends how the staff care for a site at the end of the day. Most sites fail at the moment because they refuse to care unless they get the $ in
-
We can escape the taint! Somehow...

as long as I've been on which was since before sign ups were open they've not allowed cub art, but idk about the rest
-
That is still better than the rest.
-
yeah it's pretty great, I love weasyl, I think it's a pretty great site, it has some great features that I'd love to see in other art sites, but it's unfortunately pretty dead :/
