A lot of overpriced journalists with over-inflated egos. Paying more for a journalist doesn't equal quality.

No, it certainly doesn't. Pay a journalist a good salary, they should have relevant training and experience, which some might argue about the folks affected. But offering crap pay will pretty much guarantee you're not going to attract quality candidates - many exiting the biz.
