Sham elections according to who?

According to their constitution. They were held in the wrong month, with opposition leaders in jail, so were boycotted as illegal by the opposition. Which caused turnout to drop from 80 percent of the country to by Maduro's best number 46 percent(probably even lower)

You know it was the opposition that called this election in the first place? And also said no to UN observers while Maduro invited them

You should have lived in Venezuela for the past 15 years with no food and a lack of medicines, no freedom of speech, plus all the violence and crime in the streets. That is Socialism!

It's okay for you to oppose US interference in Venezuela. But it is not okay for you to generalise and smear the people opposing Maduro's repressive, kleptocratic regime.

I usually agree with you, brother, but ...Regime’s kleptocracy? What’s your evidence for those claims? The regime Chavez replaced were experts in kleptocracy. Fascism is growing in South America. It’s dangerous.

Ilhan, I love you but as a Venezuelan American you could not be more wrong. The opposition is not a far right group it is not trump installing him. It is a movement by the people to overthrow an illegitimate dictator we just ask the int. community recognize the will of the ppl

It does not make sense for the West to install a new president when that person did not even contest the last presidential election (not that it is ever acceptable, but this person isn't anywhere near that role in the system)

Other opposition members did oppose him and lost because the election was rigged. He is the president of the senate and next in line to succession. It is not the west installing. The Venezuelan people through “cabildos” declared him president which are in our constitution

They aren't installing anyone there is to be a new election. And every Western country seems to back Trump don't know why this is a US "coup"

Just to add, Maduro made an election just for himself to win. Opposition leaders of the Major parties are in jail or disabled to participate in any election. The members of the organization that runs the election were selected ilegally.
