When Syrians seem to get upset that their country is not occupied by US forces. Oh well
-

-
SDF is not an occupation. They liberated one third of Syria, with the help of 60-70 countries. Much like Russia & foreign fighters sponsored by Iran did with the Syrian regime, except to fight ISIS not to kill fellow Syrians. Clearer?
-
SDF is not the question. Your support for long US occupation is
-
I think the US should continue to provide support and protection to the SDF, yes. No need for US forces on the ground. From Dec 2016https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-to-salvage-syria …
-
And long-term, the best solution is for this force to be part of one Syria (if/since Assad stays, then de-centralized governance in multiple areas is the way forward.)
-
De-centralize Syria is a term that gets thrown around mostly with little care. Lovely concept till you sit down and get into the details (and I speak from a personal experience).
-
That there was a "US occupation" is propaganda for the post-coup Putin-Erdogan alliance. Was there a Russian occupation in Afrin?

What was the purpose of this "indigenous force partnership relationship"? To defeat ISIS as a territorial force. Has that been achieved? Yes.
-
No, it hasn't, and US policy makers consistently discussed the SDF controlled areas providing leverage within Syria against Iran and Russia. The Assad regime would need to make concessions to regain the territory. Now that's lost, for literally no gain.

Partnering with a force that never dropped its alliance with Assad was the last thing that was needed.

Hasan what's your level of expertise on the PKK? Do you follow this terror group at all? I would really like to hear your views on them and their activities.

In your opinion is there any link between that “best option” of the US and the PKK which is in the US terror list?

It is stunning how desensitized we are to this level of grand stupidity and the horrific fallout likely to follow as a result.

You are right. The partnership among PKK / YPG and ISIS under common command of Pentagon has been really interesting (Brett McGurk being Joint Commander of YPG & ISIS). So many evidences for the very good cooperation in Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, Manbij etc :https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/raqqas_dirty_secret …

Aren't you getting tired with these faux sob stories? Nobody is buying the propaganda. US is not the YPG's airforce.
