Microsoft Windows has programs to fix files. Said programs will delete files that have filenames with non-allowed textual characters in them; for example, a question mark ("?") can be added to an filename of a file in an external hard drive that has an NTFS file system by using a Linux distro (such as Fedora). These programs that are run at the command unfortunately do not warn users that their files with "bad" filenames will be irreparably deleted (even if the file isn't corrupt). Less unfortunately, these programs will irreparably delete corrupted files.
