We love connecting with local artists and creatives – and finding ways to work with them.

Local artist SCAN (aka Josh Hagel) will be here during Kids Take Over in January to lead the Urban Streetscape activity – he’ll be around to show the kids techniques and skills that they can use to make their mark on HOTA. Working with paint and stencils kids can go wild and tag our walls with their own creations.

SCAN also made us some super cool signs for Kids Take Over.

Born just outside Brisbane, he has been drawing and creating for as long as he can remember – inspired by the fantastic, mysterious and obscure.

‘Growing up in the 70s lots of my vivid memories are of pictures from Sci Fi & Horror films which I saw in books and magazines. I was always fascinated by the B grade monster movies of the 50s being atomically activated giant creatures or bulb headed saucer men with bulging eyes. Equally being captured by the seriousness of the gothic Hammer Horror films from the UK.

‘During the 80s I was heavily into breakdancing and street art which put a fresh new twist in my style which I still enjoy now,’ he said.

Starting his artistic journey from a young age Josh believes all kids need the chance to be creative.

‘Creativity is important for kids for developing their imagination and the chance to create something of their very own.

‘At the Urban Streetscape event I’ll be showing the kids examples of my live painting and giving them the opportunity to have a go if they like.

‘I love creating something visually appealing for everyone to enjoy.’

Kids can come along between 10am-2pm on 16 – 18 Jan and join in the free Urban Streetscape activity which is part of Kids Take Over.
