First of all, he looks very sexy, and secondly
I couldn’t help but notice he looks like a bird xD. Now we can make bird jokes like we do with Shay xD
I don’t know where it comes from but I have the following constantly in mind when thinking about that:
birds = flying = wind = life
there are also these four coloured birds in the very first opening that merge into that big white bird.
Well I understand that he’s not a character associated with birds or flying, since his motif is bullets/guns but I couldn’t help but notice his visor reminds me of a bird’s beak the way it’s shaped. Animators probably could’ve removed it all together, since it we already know what he looks like so even more symbolism there, and like you said with the Ignis taking on the shape of birds and he’s still still associated with them in his own way.
Plus, I think he still needs the visor to protect his eyes, I believe? But I hadn’t even thought of the Ignis as birds in relation to Revolver ‘til you mentioned that xD. I usually think of the Lost Incident kids. Good eye!
now I remember what makes think like that
birds = flying = wind => life <= breath(ing) = heartbeat
I think it was around episode 24-ish when he was watching those henchmen having a blast during the Another arc that
episode 8, I’m sorry. when he is just about to duel Playmaker in his first Speed Duel with him. he doesn’t believe in fiction, the internet. what’s more important is the real world, breathing, a heartbeat. living. meaning life.
I cannot explain why exactly my brain thinks like that, though.
Ah, I see. I remember that, and I liked your interpretation, too. There’s also not just the coloured birds in the intro, but those two birds in the finale scene just adds even more interest to yours as well; and Yusaku even has a small flashback in Episode 1 (I’m probably missing some stuff as I only started watching during the Hanoi arc, but that could also be a thing.)
I didn’t think about him looking like a bird before I saw this post, but to be honest, you’re not far off at all. Ryoken’s surname Kogami「鴻上」has direct reference to a bird, specifically a “big (white) bird”. His whole surname can be translated into “leader of big (white) birds” or “the big white bird leader”.
The birds from the first opening to me has always represented memories, specifically when Yusaku was said to be searching for the missing pieces of his past, with (imo) the most important piece being his special person which was why the different colours “fused” into the big white bird.
