I really need to publicly denounce this guy and any association I ever had with him as a young journalist at VICE. He has turned himself into a far-right dictator apologist & no journalist should take him seriously on any subject. This is just delusional religious supremacy now.

This alignment was known from Day 1 and we lost as a result of the support to the YPG which enabled Assad to split the battlefield effectively. Their enmity with Turkey was evident from early statements and the rest of us were caught in the crossfire of the old PKK-Turkey fault.

As for elections, we already had elections under the regime many times, and Assad always wins 99%. If people are still too scared to criticize the regime openly in regime areas, how can you have a free and fair election? Negotiating over the constitution and elections is dumb.

Assad declared war on his own people, caused one of the largest refugee exodus in modern history, killed over 500,000 Syrians, laid the foundation for radicalisation, indirectly gave birth to ISIS, lost the Syrian heritage of centuries... So let’s reopen our embassies.

More specifically I mean Italy. As some insiders know I've been following Italy-UAE connections for a while, convinced the latter serves as kind of vehicle to facilitate re-establishment of Italian activity in Syria, despite sanctions.
