Also, for minorities who end up on the Sex Offender Registry: >You are not protected against hate crimes >You cannot hide from violent racists/homophobes/transphobes/misogynists >You have little to no access to social support communities >Youre basically handed a death sentence.

I'm not quite sure I see the problem here. If you're a sex offender you don't deserve to live, much less have the luxury of a job or home. Now, falsely accused people being on there? Definitely a problem. But that's not a problem with the list or its effects.
-
The problem comes in the same shape as the entire overlying problem with the criminal justice system in that it doesn't rehabilitate anyone. Everything that the sex offender registry does only makes the problem worse. When an offender has no means to better themselves, they...
-
...turn right back to unlawful actions either out of necessity or demotivation to improve. However, it's been shown that offering help in the form of behavior therapy and a clear path to improvement have lessened sexual assault rates overall.
-
Besides the fact that crime statistic show most sexual assault is not random or repetitive, and tends to occur in familiar relationships most often; which is something that the registry does nothing to help.
-
On a separate note, responding "then perish" to a thread about something I have a lot of experience/suffering with is a good way to earn a swift block from me. After years of watching my fiancé needlessly suffer through a false conviction, I don't have much patience for this.
-
Oh, lord no. I absolutely agree that false convictions are a crime against the "convicted" themselves, and are an epidemic. You and your fiance have my deepest condolences.
-
I am talking about this for actual, correctly-accused sex offenders. Anyone else should be nowhere near that list.
