    Mission is to make sure that the country where 9/11 attacks were planned never becomes again a sanctuary for AQ again (said with much respect and admiration for your remarkable service).

    Is our mission in Afghanistan to train locals? Rebuild the nation? Educate? That should only take another 100 years. Minimum.

    Congress passed AUMF to fight Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) was an Al Qaeda branch that changed it's name to Islamic State before Bush 2007 surge. Same enemy Bush fought.

    What’s the legal authority for US in Syria? When Trump was preparing to run, he said Obama was wrong to intervene without congressional authorization. I don’t like how Afghanistan has gone, but at least I understand why we should be fighting there.

    That is both true and pathetic. He offered $25B last year until Trump made his "sh$&hole" countries comment and took it off the table.

    The reason why it can't be $2.1B? Per plugged-in Dems, Schumer's hands are tied. He feels he's already out on a limb with the Left with $1.6B offer for border security for a POTUS loathed by base and WH is mistaken to think brinkmanship will somehow change the political reality

    FWIW: I don’t give a shit about helping the people of Afghanistan. And never have — that’s where this went off the rails. This is about defeating our enemies. If we don’t have the will to do that, fine. But that is called *defeat*, not ending our ‘help’ mission.

    Agree 100%. When everything is an outrage nothing is an outrage. And this irresponsible Syria/Afghan withdrawal IS an outrage.

    Too much of the criticism of Trump has been overblown, too often about things that either didn’t happen or didn’t matter. That is not true of Syria/Mattis. This is a big deal, both in the substance of the Trump decisions and the way the whole episode was handled.

    If Ds think a wall is racist, wasteful and won’t make us safer, what do they want to do with existing walls? Do they support tearing down the wall between Tijuana and San Diego? The problem is the Ds won’t compromise. Walls were fine - until Trump wanted one.

    We were able to do so (thus preventing attacks on America) and save thousands of Syrian lives thanks to allies who did almost all the ground fighting for us. We are now abandoning those same allies to get slaughtered, while also giving a clear opportunity for ISIS to recover.

    The Syria pullout is not made less reckless because it keeps a campaign promise. That should be glaringly obvious.
