    Why didn't Mattis and everyone else realize that their Syrian policy was living on borrowed time since April when Trump pushed for withdrawal from Syria. Just as with JCPOA and Jerusalem nobody should have been surprised. His advisers held the line -- for awhile.

    Looks like a compromise has been worked out at UNSC on resolution. Humanitarian language compressed, IHL references removed, no direct mention of Iran. If it passes with an endorsement of Stockholm and a mandate for the UN to implement then that is enough.
