  4. This isn’t the first time Erdoğan had convinced Trump to withdraw troops from Syria. Erdoğan and Trump had a phone call on March 30. Three days later, on April 3, Trump for the first time publicly said he wanted US troops to immediately come home.

  5. Had the decision makers taken Turkey’s offer of unlimited support for Raqqa operation last year; there wouldn’t have been this mess now they are complaining about. You would have Turkey against Iran in Raqqa and Deirezzour. YPG crisis with Turkey wouldn’t have been there

  7. There are Turkey’s wins: • Effectively allowing Turkey to pull the strings in NE Syria. Can bomb, invade any time it wants • End of close US mil support to PKK/YPG, therefore opening a way for Turkey to restart talks with Kurds • Ceding US area of influence partly to Ankara

  8. Trump’s Syria decision isn’t an outright win for Turkey: • Turkish military is prepared a full scale invasion of majority Kurdish cities along the border? • What happens if Assad/Iran moves in those areas? • If Turkey invades, who would run these areas? FSA, Roj-Pesh?

    So many seem concerned about the fate of U.S. proxies on the ground, i.e. PKK's Syrian branch. American support gave them political legitimacy while hurting relations with a NATO ally. Pullout from might help clarify US policy goals & repair relations w/ .
