With his decision on Syria, Trump has effectively handed Syria to Russia, Iran, Assad, Hezbollah and Turkey. Obama's red line debacle was a dark day for American leadership in the Middle East. This is far worse.

So you are well aware then that leaving Syria will expose our anti-ISIS ally to genocide at the hands of Turkey and their jihadist proxies? Maybe not idiotic, but definitely cold blooded. Where do you think all the thousands of captured ISIS members will go when Turkey attacks?

Exactly. This has been the most successful US deployment in the ME we have ever seen. With people that are actually loyal and share our values.

these are the same people that saved the Yazidis from genocide at the hands of ISIS, and here you are cheering on their abandonment to Turkey, Iran, and Assad. It's gross.

You can be glib all you want. But selling out the only people that share our values in the ME (the Kurds) to our blood thirsty/genocidal NATO ally is criminal. I'm not sure if you are ill informed on this issue, but the US should be doing everything it can to support them.

U.S. pulling troops out of Syria will leave the Kurds alone against a Turkish onslaught. Not exactly what the Kurds expected when they did the heavy lifting and dirty work in the US fIght against ISIS.

There is no strategic logic behind what the President just did in Syria, unless the strategy is changing the news cycle and trying to rally the base in anticipation of worse news to come.

"So obviously, it would be reckless if we were just to say, well, the physical caliphate is defeated, so we can just leave now. I think anyone who’s looked at a conflict like this would agree with that." Brett McGurk, Presidential Envoy for the Defeat ISIS Coalition, Dec 11.

still has an estimated 20,000-30,000 fighters in and there’s been an uptick in its insurgent attacks in . And yet declares mission accomplished and a US troop pull-out.

Another gun-in-mouth day for US policy in the Middle East. Withdrawing from Syria - where we cause Iran huge dilemmas at very low cost - is an interesting definition of bringing "maximum pressure" on Iran.

Whatever point you want to make about US involvement, it’s probably a bad thing to immediately abandon an ally as an army that has consistently committed ethnic cleansing against said ally prepares an imminent military operation.

in Syria, STOP fighting ISIS immediately this was never your fight. Thousands of Kurds lost to ISIS while Erdogan, America's loyal & NATO ally fed them, bought oil from them, & healed their wounded. Protect your territory, oil fields, pipelines, dams. Be ready for war.

I strongly disagree. It has morphed into other forms of extremism and the threat is very much alive.
