US withdrawal from northern Syria could force the Kurds into a “deal with the devil”. I spoke to a number of officials during a recent trip there about what happens if Turkey invades and America abandons them

So Erdogan is planning to kill every last man, woman, and child in Rojava and drive the ones who survive out into the ISIS-ridden Syrian desert in winter. Is this not the definition of a war crime? Should every person in the world not be opposed to this?

Right now, US troops in Raqqa and other areas governed by the SDF (YPG/J’s rebrand) are essentially acting as human shields to assure that neither Turkey nor the Syrian regime invades or bombs. When they leave, those areas will fall, and another refugee wave will begin

The US killed thousands of civilians in the anti ISIS campaign in Syria. It used white phosphorus. It destroyed 80% of Raqqa and did almost nothing to rebuild. The fighters who died in the campaign were mostly from YPG/J, Turkey’s target when the US leaves Mission accomplished

Precipitous withdrawal from Syria, with no coordination with allies nor even a plan to evacuate Syrians who helped us, takes a 6-sided standoff (US, SDF, Turkey, Assad, Russia, ISIS) and turns it into a bloody free-for-all. That WILL blow back on everybody including us.

SOHR claims Trump's decision to withdraw came as a shock for SDF commanders, effectively contradicting the situation on the ground as fuel and military equipment arrived to several SDF bases

With all due respect, ISIS is not defeated in Syria, Iraq, and after just returning from visiting there -- certainly not Afghanistan.

Withdrawal of this small American force in Syria would be a huge Obama-like mistake.

President is right to want to contain Iranian expansion. However, withdrawal of our forces in Syria mightily undercuts that effort and put our allies, the Kurds at risk.

  19. Still around 14,000 ISIS fighters in Syria... They just claimed a suicide attack in Raqqa (where US troops and USAID is) an hour ago. But you guys never let facts get in the way of sucking Trump off.

If you defeated ISIS in Syria, why does the UN claim that there are still 20,000 - 30,000 ISIS fighters in Syria and Iraq?

This makes it look official - is resisting pressure from DOD-NSC-State. I cannot stress enough how naive this decision will prove to be. Everything the U.S. has fought for in will have been wasted. We'll be back in a few years, at most.
