    I didn’t know that US adm. intended to topple Assad at any point since the eruption of the Syrian revolution .

    US envoy to states that Washington is no longer seeking to topple 's regime. I believe the administration (although perhaps unofficially) gave up plans for regime change once eyes got set on nuclear accord and Salafist jihadists took over the rebellion.
