"The Sudanese visit was a trial balloon for more visits by regional leaders." Argues @sfrantzman It was connected not to Saudi Arabia, but to Turkey-Qatar-Iran block.https://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Whats-behind-Sudanese-President-al-Bashir-going-to-meet-Syrias-Assad-574558 …
@vvanwilgenburg OMG, this analysis is wrong on so many levels. Bashir's visit to Syria is connected to the Saudis. Yes, Sudan is ruled by the Brotherhood, but Sudan is heavily dependent on Saudi Arabia. Bashir's visit is meant to legitimise the Syrian-Saudi-Emirati rapprochement.

One has to understand the complexity of Sudan's position. Yes it's ruled by the Brotherhood, but it relies heavily on Saudi aid. The Saudis just created a Red Sea political bloc that includes Sudan. Bashir is like Yemen's former president Saleh. He dances with all sides.
-
The Saudis and Emiratis want to create an anti-Brotherhood Arab alliance that can counter Turkey, Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood. They want Syria and Iraq on their side. Bashir was asked to visit Assad in order to legitimise Damascus. In return, Bashir receives aid from KSA/UAE.

This is actually the smartest move the Saudis made in ages! By sending Bashir to Assad, they're signalling to Assad that they're willing to work with him against Turkey and the Brotherhood. Simultaneously, they sowed division among the Brotherhood since many are angry at Bashir.
