    It is alarming how little debate there has been in US policy circles about supporting the YPG. Call me old fashion, but I’m not comfortable arming and training a Marxist group with links to terrorism. I’m sure most Americans would feel same way too if they knew.

    Arguing with a contact who participated in the Turkish-backed operation in Efrin. Me: My contacts in Efrin, Arabs & Kurds, are reporting daily abuses by the factions- theft, sexual harassment, etc. Him: Not true, they've already stolen everything worth taking.

    The adds to other evidence that is nearing a boiling point: there's been virtually no rebuilding; the streets aren't safe; and probably the itself are assassinating opponents; and a form of nostalgia for the "order" IS provided is taking hold.

    Using "the Kurds" interchangeably with "PKK" erases the PKK's victims. There are 200,000 Syrian Kurds in Turkey who fled the YPG/PKK regime. Note: the PKK areas were never exposed to regime bombardment, as rebel areas were. This is near-solely the result of political repression.

    Best of Egypt's youth is rotting away in jail, or fled the country. I have met so many bright Egyptian young people in Istanbul with death sentences or lifetime prison sentences while they are only in their twenties.
