In response to IDPs settling in Afrin, they called for their murder. In response to military preparations by TFSA, they started planting IEDs with the sole intent of murdering civilians. Their natural response to everything is to target innocents, straight out of the terror book.

Everyone needs to chill on the Syria and France comparisons. We need to at least see an armored vehicle firing randomly in a city block, with macrons face plastered on the turret first. Europe has crazy riots all the time and they burn hundreds of vehicles for fun in Malmö alone.

My point is that Turkey has had ample time to establish itself more aggressively in northern Syria, but for some inexplicable reason it has not. The overall effect has been exposing Idlib rather than protecting it long-term

Idlib is hanging by the thread of Russo-Turkish “diplomacy” once again, with the only active military efforts comprising of “elite forces” videos and isolated attacks by fringe groups

To make matters worse, there is a palpable complacency prevalent within the entire armed rebellion (whatever is left at this point), to the point where very little defensive preparations have been pursued.

About three months ago, I was very critical of Turkey’s half-way commitment in protecting Idlib. The isolated observation points with no robust military presence was like slapping a tiny bandaid over a gaping wound. In the last three months, very little has changed.

A gleaming, golden statue of President Hafez al-Assad in front of a devastated, bullet-scarred residential tower block is a great visual metaphor of the situation in Syria.

Mazen was arrested for delivering baby formula to a neighborhood besieged by the regime. He was tortured almost every day for one year and seven months. We, syrian, have to show again and again what is our life under Assad. Mazen is a survivor, but these crimes happens still now.
