    My new article in , looking at - tensions in northern - something for which both & have much to blame each-other for. One thing is clear though - things will get much worse soon, if the underlying issues are not dealt with seriously.

    So far, no sign of any imminent new cross-border offensive -> north . Much of yesterday's social media activity looks to have been rumor & conspiracy. Some of those rumors appear to have mislead some 'assessments' - underlining the importance of on-ground contacts.

    Significant security developments in -controlled north today: - 1 car bomb & 2 IEDs exploded in Azaz, al-Rai & al-Bab, killing 2 and wounding 30. - Another IED & a car bomb were defused in al-Bab & Jarablus. A marked escalation in attacks - perpetrators unknown.
