Take a look at my paper for "Russia and Israel: The Middle Eastern Vector of Relations". I look at three aspects shaping RUS-ISR ties: - Iran's role in Syria - JCPOA - Palestinian settlement Recommendations for the RUS government included

True but isn’t this at least to an extent a result of the West unconditionally propping up regional powers and continuously refusing to question their policies all for the sake of maintaining an illusion of a security alliance against perceived threats?

This dash cam video of the latest showdown between Damascus and Israel in Southern Syria tonight is something special. The song really completes it. "Hasta Siempre Comandante Che Guevara" 😂

Surreal: We live in the universe where lack of DDR programs for Russian PMCs returning from Syria has created parallel security structures inside Russia and could destabilize the country

Sad fact du jour: Russia pays more to Syrian soldiers that it bankrolls (80$-130$ a month) than it does to its own unemployed citizens (22$ a month)

No. Russia didn’t criticize Saudi nor did it try to capitalize on this crisis. Russians know that for both Saudi and Turkey this crisis is not about Moscow’s position but about whose side Trump takes. Commentators give Putin too much credit where it’s not due

Lieberman's resignation may also be bad news for Russia in Syria. Russian-Israeli understanding on Syria to a large extent hinged on Lieberman's relationship with the Russians. His party also represents the Russian-speaking diaspora in Israel

Interesting in the context of Russia's stance on murder. Moscow stays under the radar but the case is increasingly handled by the West in the same way they put pressure on Russia (renaming+Magnitskiy act). "Besieged fortress" mentality drives Riyadh and Moscow closer

Interesting reactions to Russians participating in the Future Investment Initiatives in Saudi. Some commentators suggest that Russians doubled down on Saudi against the backdrop of the revelations. In fact the Russian delegation of 30 people is one of the smaller ones

What must be alarming to the Russians is the fact that Ankara is getting closer with Washington over the murder since Moscow has been working hard to permanently damage the relationship between the two. Russia needs to reach out to Turkey until it's too late

Politically the situation is not as challenging for Moscow as it is for Washington. Both Ankara and Riyadh see Trump as a referee. But expressing support for Riyadh (as Moscow has been doing) without expressing support for Ankara may work against Russia down the road

Politically Russians still approach the Saudi-Turkish spat cautiously. A relationship with Ankara is extremely important to Russia at the moment and sending wrong signals to Erdogan could bode ill for the bilateral relations.

This is the reason why for Russia it has been business as usual with Riyadh against the backdrop of public outcry in the West. Russian business easily embraces repressive governments, companies that came to Riyadh have little exposure in the West anyways and don't fear backlash

Unlike the US and the EU Russians have been building a compartmentalized relationship with Saudi Arabia, focusing chiefly on energy, trade and investment, leaving most political issues outside of the picture. Even Iran rarely figured in conversations.

The Saudis giving so much coverage and space to the Russian delegation at the conference, including to Dmitriev at the plenary session, is based on recognition that Russians will not put the Saudis in an uncomfortable position

The expectation that the Russian delegation will side with Western CEOs and withdraw from the conference is misplaced. At the end of the day it is not Moscow that has been empowering MbS for the past 3 years
