    Wow. regime naturalizes 1000s of Shi’a fighters. AFAIK first time that such blatant demographic change policy used by regime, at least since 1960s denaturalization of 100s of 1000s of Kurds. This is a big deal.

    As notes in this great thread when a large segment of society erupts in joy at news of murder of a Sufi Sheikh and his students by Al-Shabaab, something has gone fundamentally wrong. So why the huge sacrifice to fight Shabaab if their philosophy is triumphant?

    Its a collective celebration, folks calling it the single act of justice AS has ever enforced. A Sufi Sheikh, murdered in cold blood, along with his entire family, the youth he mentored- celebrated due to a manufactured charge of blasphemy. We got a long walk to compassion ahead

    The framing of the OPs as a means to protect Turkey from the YPG is, obviously, designed to positively spin a provocative move on the US side. However, no Turk will view the US language as a net positive. To the contrary, it is (unintentionally) condescending.

    The observation points the US has set up in its zone in Syria signals how seriously the US now takes the Turkish threat to move east of the river. It is a stop gap and a continuation of the now standard tactic in Syria across nations to use soldiers as human shields.
