    I could go on. But I have an actual Turkey to baste. Bottom line: let’s dispense with the notion that Turkey is an indispensable US ally. It’s a deeply, deeply problematic one. Maybe not an ally at all. That’s all for my Turkey Day rant. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

    Recently, Turkey has been cast as the protagonist in the Khashoggi affair. Of course, Turkey shared evidence of the Saudi journalist’s murder. But let’s not pretend Ankara is the hero here. They are the most prolific jailers of journalists in the world.

    I first started tracking Turkey’s illicit activities eight years ago in the wake of the flotilla crisis. The group that Ankara sent to to challenge Israel in Gaza had deep ties to terror groups. It still does.
