It's particularly ridiculous because Israel often, correctly, points out that the UN is biased. Here was a simple and clear case of a persecuted minority, why not recognize their suffering as genocide. It's not controversial, everyone sees the #ISIScrimes as genocide already

Wtf??? It's beyond my comprehension how/why we would vote against it.
-
I don’t know but when I raised this issue earlier today someone said condescendingly “You’re interested in this” as if it’s just people like me who care, but not the mainstream. Too bad that in Israel the support for Yazidis is not a consensus issue.
-
Who voted against?
@LahavHarkov ? -
The entire coalition. It’s an opposition bill. This isn’t really about the Yazidis. It’s about politics.
-
but they don't have to vote against- why not pass it?
-
Because the coalition decided to politicize this genocide bill and see recognition of it as a “threat” by the opposition. Rather than a chance for Israel to have consensus on an issue that is so clear and just.
-
Every bill is politicized. This is how the Knesset works. Ksenia knows it too. For her, it's an opportunity to say "look how bad this government is." If she wanted to call attention to the cause there were other ways she could have done it that would not have been stopped.
-
Then why did Yehuda Glick support its introduction? I’ve known Ksenia since she introduced the bill, it was never expressed as a way to attack the government. She cares passionately about this issue as do many others

No recognition. In the Armenian case the story is quite clear, Turkey and Israel were allies since 1950 and then after 2009 or so there were calls to recognize the genocide. It's all political.
-
And this decision is no less political. Also, lets not forget that Meretz and others have been trying to pass Armenian recognition for over two decades....
-
Yes, it is similar to the tragic politics that took over the Armenian genocide discussion. Except as Ksenia points out, unlike with the Armenian discussion this recognition doesn't step on anyone's toes, there's no Turkey issue here for instance.https://sethfrantzman.com/2018/11/21/why-was-a-yazidi-genocide-bill-voted-down-in-israels-knesset/ …
-
Yes, this point true. Guess it highlights that Armenian Genocide recognition has much more to do than relations with Turkey....

This is really important. What are the interests in NOT recognizing the genocide?
-
Who voted against?
-
It seems the government parties voted against like Likud, Bayit Yehudi, Shas, UTJ, etc. The opposition parties voted for it mostly. 58-38 vote.
