Two years since my housemate was gunned down randomly and the right-wing propaganda media invented and stoked vicious, revolting, & politicized conspiracy theories about it.

Well it is, but the rabbit-chasing media is determined to muddle that.

I don't know where to begin with this. Is he lying or genuinely this thick?

Others believe can't risk alienating the Saudis because we will "lose" them to Russia or China. First, I don't think that would happen for a variety of reasons. Second, I sure wish it would!

The great lie that many in the West have bought (or maybe it's because they have been bought) is that MBS will be a fundamental departure from everything we dislike about Saudi behavior. Wrong!

On the Saudis, some people have repeated the old line to me about nasty allies: "They might be SOBs, but they are our SOBs." The problem is they are not! If it was just human rights abuses I'd actually be a lot more tolerant. A few comments...

To the 95% of you openly horrified by the murder of but who never or rarely voiced criticism of the Saudis before: This doesn't even rank in the top 10 worst things this country has done in the last 6 months. But I'm truly glad the broader issue now has your attention.

    1. Saudi Arabia is less important to US interests than it ever was. 2. It is, of course, a mean and nasty world out there 3. But when the U.S. secretary of state says that this, paired with his statement on Saudi, he is saying this is ok 4. Open season on journalists abroad

The WH statement, in one tweet. I'm still dumbfounded by it.

We can call MBS many things, but I don't think reckless is one of them. He knew his mark, and he took a calculated risk. Murderous authoritarian? Absolutely. But not reckless.

I deserve some sort of international award for restraint for not incessantly trolling about this and reminding him ever quarter-hour of his failure of foresight and insight.

We should note that this is the reaction to a mild slap on the wrist for an overlong pre-trial detention. The court said nothing of the 142 years in prison Demirtaş is facing for the crime of... giving speeches.
