    It is possible though to see some de facto moderation even in an ideology one does not find agreeable at all. The mass murder of Stalin came to an end under Chrustchev and later Brezhnev. Didn't make USSR after 1953 a paradise in Western terms but for it's people it was relief.

    Some people pushing negotiations with Taliban keep describing them as "moderate." Would same people talk about moderate Nazis or KKK? Was Hitler a moderate because he squashed some of Himmler's more nuttier ideas like eugenics (killing of the mentally ill, handicap, etc.)?

    At least they tried to hide and store their weapons for better times/possible used for guerrilla op's. Sad Assadists found the caches, but respect for at least trying.
