    There was a possibility that the king’s emergence after Khashoggi’s murder would reset that relationship but it doesn’t look like it’ll be fixed or restored to normal, not now not in 20 years.

    When Bashar Assad opened up the system for a brief period of time after he took over (the closest analogy to what MbS tried to do initially) he didn’t get nearly as far as MbS did in disrupting the most foundational pillar of his rule.
