    I don't know why they do it this way, but MoFA long had consulates around Syria, just not in the northeast: . So, fair to look at political dimension of services/admin, but it's def. not about recognizing N/E as somehow different. If anything, the opposite.

    Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates opens consular office in Hasakeh. Will provide consular services for residents of eastern provinces (Raqqah, Deir, Hasakeh) and spare them difficulty of traveling to Damascus for official documents.

    One of the names is spelt wrong (it’s مالك البرغش for the Inkhil commander). There are others who have been arrested too (e.g. the commander of Liwa al-Sabteen in al-Rafeed, held since August).
