Sabarimala Temple updates: Who is Trupti Desai and why hundreds of protestors are blocking her at Kochi airport?

More than hundreds of protestors gathered at the Kochi airport in the early morning of Friday to block the way of activist Trupti Desai and other women accompanied. However, even the taxi drivers refused to take Ms. Desai and other women to the Sabarimala temple.

Trupti Desai came into the limelight in 2016 when she stood up for the protest against the ban on women in the temple and she was among the first women group who step into the Shani Shingnapur temple located in Maharashtra where a 60-year-old ban was lifted up from the temple.

However, Trupti Desai tried to visit the Sabarimala temple after another ban on women was taken away by the Supreme Court but couldn’t make it so as more than Hundreds of protestor stop them at the airport. They even directed the taxi drivers outside the Kochi Airport to not to take any of the women activists to the temple.

While talking to the media, Trupti Desai talked about her condition and said, “We landed at the airport by 4:30 am. We have not been able to go out because of these protests. Police have given us protection and have suggested that we wait for now. we have tried to book 3-4 taxis since morning; no one is willing to take us to Sabarimala. We will not leave without going to Sabarimala”.

Ms Desai however, talked to the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and state police chief for the protection to visit the temple. She said that they won’t go anywhere without visiting the temple.

Doors of the Sabarimala temple will be opened from today evening for the two month time and this is the third time since the order of the Supreme Court on September 28 since the temple will be opened.

For the first time, the pilgrimage will have to carry a pass given by the police and have the details of them including age and head counts.
