Al-Qaeda & ISIS are evolving into two distinct jihadi sects that'll be co-leading global jihad & appealing to different demographics. This competitiveness between these two rivals is not necessarily good news from a CT standpoint. I explain in this paper:

When Bolton said this days ago, we didn’t know a CIA assessment clearly implicated MbS & he clearly was briefed about it. So why he omitted that? ”Tape of alleged Khashoggi kill team saying ‘tell your boss’ doesn’t connect murder to [MbS], Bolton say”

Under MBS, Saudi Arabia became a liability. The king and the rest of the House of Saud have to choose between a reckless prince and the longevity of their kingdom.

  9. Most fascinating in this report is the role of MBS’s brother, which should turn attention back to those in the US who might have been involved in this directly or indirectly. Known individuals communicated between Khashoggi & Saud al-Qahtani. An area worth focusing on too.

  10. By Saudi authorities’ own admission, Saud al-Qahtani & the deputy intel directed the operation; and that the head of the operation called back & said “tell your boss, the deed is done.”

  11. But also spot on: CIA analysts believe he has a firm grip on power and is not in danger of losing his status as heir to the throne despite the Khashoggi scandal. “The general agreement is that he is likely to survive” & his role as the future Saudi king is “taken for granted.”

  12. This CIA assessment is spot on. No way in hell MbS didn’t direct or at least know of the clearly planned murder. “The accepted position is that there is no way this happened without him being aware or involved,” said a U.S. official familiar with the CIA’s conclusions.

My latest published today by examines the role of religion in Iran's relations to clients & proxies; and argues that religion alone is insufficient for preserving a group's loyalty over time. Findings have implications for the future MidEast

Given Abu Dhabi's CP's meeting with the Islah Party, the tweets above were from almost exactly a year ago. (Circulating as a first, but it's not)

If this is true, the development aligns very well with my article above. The Middle East is shifting, and the driving force behind this shift needs to be understood if anyone hopes to bring about change or preempt possible unraveling:
