It is past time to face our duplicity while we rely on the Rojava Kurds/SDF. The PKK doesn't even belong on the US terror list in the first place as they have never threaten, nor been a threat, to the US. The true terrorists in the PKK matter are successive Turkish governments.
Amb. Jim Jeffrey at @DefenseOne event acknowledging that biggest US partnerin Syria is "an offshoot of the PKK" and referring to it as "the SDF/PYD." Everybody knows this, but someone at CENTCOM is going to have a heart attack over the fact that Jeffrey said it out loud in public

Make nice with Assad? The Kurds, the ones I know have more brains than you do if your comment is a gauge, remember too well what life in Assad's regime is like for them. They have leverage with oil/gas, true, but the US isn't leaving the DFNS anytime in the foreseeable future.

Pompeo can delist PKK by saying "I hereby delist PKK". This power was granted the Secretary precisely to take account of historical change. This will cause a brief shock in the Turkish government, but will in fact lance a boil on the body politic and enhance friendship.
