    During the Obama administration, the US explicitly rejected to equip & train factions against ISIS if they fought against Assad (& logically also Iran) Now, the US wants to contain Iran by supporting same force instead of factions who fought Iran constantly. Good luck with it!

    The US is trying to mediate between: - YPG/PKK & Syrian Kurdish ENKS party: No success - YPG/PKK & Turkey: No succes - YPG/PKK & FSA: No success - YPG/PKK & Barzani: No success And now: between YPG/PKK & local Arabs and Arab tribes

    It was reported that reps have been paying visits to locals in without the presence of officials unlike how it used to be in the past, where all meetings were under the supervision of ..this is interesting development

    So this is not a story of "ironies" and "paradoxes". The Turkish takeover of extensive armed formations in Northern Syria representing powerful local networks hostile to Assad as well as the YPG is the logical outcome of policy choices the Americans made in 2015.

    Also from PKK/YPG point of view: ISIS is only a step to achieve the greater goal. As seen many times by YPG officially stopping its anti-ISIS operations, PKK/YPG considers TR as its essential enemy TR has given US lot of time & opportunities. TR is ready to risk full escalation

    The false assumption in US circles cames from the underestimating of the YPG threat towards Turkey‘s national security and the misleading idea of the possibility to mediate between TR and PKK/YPG YPG isn’t a domestic politics topic but a state issue of all Turkish institutions
