Turkey tip for journalists new to the beat: if you call Fethullah Gülen a “prominent dissident” or “exiled cleric” and leave it at that, you’re doing it really wrong.

Gove offering, as a famous lawyer, international negotiator and diplomat, to renegotiate 585 pages of complex treaty did rather remind me of this.

Theresa May claims she can’t see anyone with a better deal than her one. How about not doing Brexit? It’s clearly impossible to achieve in a way that doesn’t destroy the country.

It isn't just a tactical error. I have said from the start that it was a moral imperative to uncover the truth. To treat any evidence as a bargaining chip rather than a tool to establish truth in an egregious murder was always an error.

The only mistake Turkey made with the Khashoggi case was releasing audio tapes now and not 3-4 weeks ago. I imagine they thought it would increase the drama. They didn't realise the global news machine moves on. No-one is reporting this now apart from TRT World.

Imagine loving a country so much that you’d literally threaten to burn it down if it didn’t 100% comply with your own ideological imprint of how it should be. That truly is patriotism!

Turkish club Fenerbahçe once set fire to their own stadium because they didn’t win the league. Everyone laughed. Bit like the Brexiter threat of riots if they don’t get the exact Brexit they want. Exactly as mindless but this time it’s razing a whole country to the ground.

Prime Minister's Questions is really weird today. The country is in the process of a historic self-immolation, the Tory Party is collapsing in on itself and last 10 minutes have been about: - a 100 year old bell-ringer - new trains - A-level German being canned in some school

Just received this from the Oxford Union. Steve Bannon gets a full-on normalized CV and won’t be debating anyone, rather giving a monologue address of what I’m sure won’t be fascistic propaganda. This is how it starts, people.

As Brexiters go completely mental at not getting the "perfect Brexit" (which differs for each and every one of them), they should consider what it will be like if they lose it. On the other hand, don't. Proceed like this because it might bring an end to this shitshow.

The problem with this joke isn't just that it requires you to know another joke about homophobia for it to really work. It's that it's not all that funny because it's likely quite true.

Also good to see that their "petrol on fire" approach to Ireland also now apparently applies to the Balkans. Don't understand a long-standing conflict but think it might help you make a narrow ideological point? Use it, what's the worst that could happen?

Brexiters are having a complete meltdown, saying Brexit deal will make Britain: - a slave state - like Bosnia after the Yugoslavian war - a colony Which would be hilarious if a) they weren't destroying the country and b) Britain hadn't actually colonised and enslaved millions

Things Donald Trump has called the "worst deal in history" or "worst deal ever": NAFTA, WTO, Iran agreement, Australian refugee agreement. Isn't it funny how these charlatans turned up and suddenly everything was the "worst ever"?

The “Swimming Pool” solution for Northern Ireland. Has anything ever been as botched as Brexit? This is sheer amateur night now.
