    This is key, I think. It means the backstop would involve a regulatory border in the Irish Sea, with checks on agricultural goods at the Port of Larne.

    It's understood there is one overall backstop to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland. It will be in the form of a UK-wide customs arrangement, but will have "deeper" provisions for Northern Ireland on the customs and regulatory side.

    The Commission is (generously) proposing to waive a short-term visa requirement for UK nationals, but only if the UK reciprocates - for *all* EU member states, yes that includes Romania, xenophobes. And Council/Parliament have to approve, of course. 4/

    Detailed entry checks, yay! Visa requirement for long stay, proof of right to reside, proof of means of subsistence, database checks, etc. Paperwork, precious rights removed. Unless you’re a UK/EU dual national… 😅😓 3/

    The European Commission is taking “no deal” seriously. Today it published a 31-page note advising citizens on how a disorderly Brexit will impact travel between the UK & EU. As someone who commutes across that border, I’m paying careful attention. [thread]

    There may be provisions relating to Northern Ireland within the text and within annexes to take account of a scenario whereby the UK-wide customs arrangement does not sufficiently avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland, understands.
