I made a comparison between the Fire Emblem games and Golden Sun since they both (internationally) started on the GBA, whilst Roy then got in over a Golden Sun rep. I know that these comparisons aren't entirely fair, since Fire Emblem has had many games previously

but the difference in sales is quite large, across the whole of the Fire Emblem games compared to the first and second Golden Sun games - with even Dark Dawn outselling the Tellius games, yet Ike was then chosen over the possibility of a Golden Sun rep

The Tellius games didn't have much advertising, hence the sales etc etc etc - but had Ike not been in Smash, he would not have the popularity that he does today now I'm not saying I would have wanted Isaac in over any of the FE crew, but it's just a surprise to me

and FE is one of Sakurai's favourite series, which I absolutely respect and agree with - and at the end of the day, it is his labour of love and thus his decision who gets into the game - but Isaac just feels unjustly forgotten (especially from Sm4sh)

now the reason I compared them to Xenoblade is because of the sales, once again, and how niche the series is - similar to Golden Sun Outside of the Nintendo world, Xenoblade (and even FE) is a rare occurrence - as is Golden Sun... Yet Shulk managed to make it in?

Now this could be due to many things; popularity, relevance, interesting movesets (which I have rebuttals for all, but that's just more for the rant) But the fact that Rex got a costume reeeaally irked me, when Isaac's assist trophy had a 5 second clip without any comment

again, I don't think Isaac should have taken any of the places of the characters already in. I'm just fascinated and confused at the position he's now in, considering the creativity his moveset could have, the cult popularity behind him and the outstanding sales

at this point, I feel spoiled with the amount of characters and pure effort poured into the game - this is just my plea for Isaac as a possible DLC character

I have to say...*this* is absolutely how you protest something. Making a bunch of rant tweets doesn't solve anything. No, you went and did actual evidence as to why it had a legit reason for consideration - and hell, even made us learn something new. Good on ya, man.
-
I think you're giving this ramble too much credit, but I appreciate it all the same! It's a series I wish to see get revived, which is most likely to happen through Smash (RIP F Zero, though) Hopefully Isaac will get more supporters!

I think the reason FE and Xenoblade got priority over GS is because they have a more stable future. We dont know if there will ever be any new game in the GS series. Camelot doesn't have the man power to make another Golden Sun compared to something simple like Mario Tennis.
-
yeah, I can definitely understand that - it just doesn't make it any less of a shame, you know? Whilst Fire Emblem had more of a stable future, Roy still got in despite Binding Blade not being released outside of JP... I'm just a little confused, nothing against Roy or FE

Great thread Dom!

Cheers! I hope my rambling doesn't come across as pure rage... I just want the djinni boy to come home

Not at all! Isaac was the one I voted for in the ballot all those years ago so I feel your pain a lot

Xenoblade 2’a numbers are severely out of date. It’s nearly caught up to GS1 as of now. 1.52 million. VGchartz is not very accurate on games less than 10 years ol honestly. Also this analysis factors out digital re-releases which benefit most of the titles on the list.
-
Also. As to why Shulk got a slot in smash 4 but Isaac didnt. They weren’t in direct contention. That’s for starters. But it’s because of the large scale critical success the first Xenoblade game. While it alone didn’t sell great. It has been very influential in console rpg design
-
Blaming Xenoblade or fire emblem representation on golden suns lack of representation is an exercise in futility. While I very vehemently support Isaac in smash, louder so than any other fighter not represented as of now, a by the numbers analysis isn’t gonna lead to our answer.

May want to check your numbers. According to Nintendo IR site, XC2 has sold 1.5 million. Also keep in mind the first XC was a limited release in the US.
