6/ During redistricting in 2011, the number of seats in Dallas County dropped from 16 to 14. Both of those losses were Republican-held seats, but Republicans were still able to carve up the county in a way that gave them a two-seat advantage.https://bit.ly/2RFwqiz

Gerrymandering is still alive & stifling democracy in Ohio. Voters passed redistricting in May then elected GOP to the offices that weigh in on redrawing the map in 2021. Vicious cycle will continue until the District map is fair.

Ugh, I feel ya here in Louisiana. Convenient how they scooped up New Orleans and Baton Rouge into a single district.

Sigh. It did not backfire. It was overwhelmed by a tsunami of Trump hatred and demographics. Dallas is 70% (D) now. You can’t gerrymander that.
-
I'm heartened by this for a different reason. It's a good thing that gerrymandering has bit both sides in the ass enough across the country. Getting independent state commissions to draw the lines should be what we all root for now.
-
Agreed. No politician should EVER get to draw the lines for a district. Non partisan committees with help from Math professors to ensure no gerrymandering. There are several who are now witnesses in voting rights lawsuits. They show how mathematically these districts are skewed.

Gerrymandering should be the top question to any official running for state office. Suppressing the will of half the people is not right, regardless of your party.
