    But for all that ending what I call the regional war in Yemen will be the easiest part. Ending the civil war and putting Yemen back together again as a functioning state will be the hard part.

    I think this isn't getting enough attn because ISF's increased capacity & a US presence means another Fall of Mosul isn't in the cards. But this misses the ideological/cultural significance of ISIS resilience, and its potential dangers in a region still beset by instability.

    Currently the Yemeni forces around Hodeida are resetting to temporary defensive consolidation. That requires some adjustment to the front line on defensible positions. You will see fighting but it is not the offensive. If talks fail, THEN you will see the offensive.

    I hate this stuff. It’s so condescending. It completely ignores a complex, multifaceted and internally-driven conflict and reduces Yemenis to helpless puppets of external powers with no agency of their own.

    while also acknowledging that the “Saudi led war against Yemen” isn’t the standard of objectivity you’d expect from the international editor of paper like the NYTimes, especially since they’ve just published an excellent & balanced piece on Yemen today 2/2
