  1. Makes me so sad to see a little kid in dropping his empty yoghurt pot on the pavement when he finished it, then looking sheepish as I bark “burası çöp değil”. The culture of chucking rubbish on the ground ruins this magnificent city. Educate kids about the environment.

Achingly proud of my (objectively speaking) brilliant brother. Even though my 8-year-old memories of screaming rows as we played Monopoly dispute the claim that he's "always calm". Congrats to the whole team 👏

1 month today since Jamal took these steps into the consulate and towards his death. Still no admission of who ordered the odious killing. Still the promise of a tough line from western governments - but no sign. And still Crown Prince looks safe in power.

“At least he had someone at the end of his life who loved him. Maybe that crossed his mind in the last minutes.” The heartbreak of Hatice Cengiz is unimaginable and her dignified, courageous response is extraordinary.

Either this is how it'll remain...or it allows the airport to be given the name of a certain leader in the future. Let's see. Either way, it avoids what could have been yet another source of division and polarisation in a country that really doesn't need any more.

Well that genuinely is a surprise. New airport to be called “Istanbul Airport”. Not Erdogan, not Abdulhamit II, as rumoured. Just the city, plain and simple. And what a city it is. Ataturk airport will remain but downsized so the father of the nation gives way for his replacement
